An adventure of a lifetime. The opportunity to see and be apart of America by riding our bicycles across country from Oceanside, Ca. to St. Augustine, Fl. in 55 days or less. I am not totally adventureous as I will have a SAG (support and gear) car following or going ahead. I am hoping for 5 cyclists total and 1 driver.
I have been reading books about people traveling across America in this way and some compare it to the Pioneers. The people they met the sights, sound ands smells they experienced I am looking forward to creating my own experiences, memories and stories. (I would like to know where they are now and what they are doing?)
I am starting with maps from Adventure Cycling the Southern Tier and then we will be detouring to San Antonio and New Oreans and then back on their routes to St. Augustine.
About once a week we will take an extra night in a historical or interesting location and explore. Silver City, N.M., Langtry, Tx., The Alamo, New Orleans.
I have a friend who has raced across America a few times and he is kind enough to indulge me and suggested local routes and listen to my excitement in planning. I have also been in contact with a gentleman in Texas who belongs to Bike Texas org. and has helped get us into San Antonio and given me emails of other clubs and organizations along our route.
I have been plotting our route on my Microsoft Trips and Streets where I can make every twist and turn and make daily maps for everyone.
Our mileage will vary we want to average about 75 miles a day some days when we are traveling in no-mans land we will ride 110 to 125 miles a day. And we will take tents and sleeping bags just in case. Yikes!
